Interested in knitting a quilted pillow? Turns out it’s a great idea because it’s quick to do! Because it’s so quick you can either keep it for yourself or make it as a nice handmade gift.
Here’s a great tutorial for the “Shine bright quilted pillow”. It begins with cutting out fabric scraps for the pillow which would be used for he backs and batting. Then 16 squares in a 4 row by 4 squares pattern is laid out and stitched together. The 4 rows are joined and strips added. Finally, the quilting is done which results in an 18” square pillow case.
Key Takeaways:
- Cut the following: Out of your fabric scraps cut out 3.5″ squares from various coordinating prints. I used 9 different fabrics. Cut 2 strips of border fabric 12.5″ by 3.5″ and two strips 18.5″ by 3.5.” Cut two squares 14″ by 18.5″ for the pillow backs. Cut one square of 18.5″ by 18.5″ batting
- – Stitch each of the 4 squares together using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press seams. – Now join each of the four rows together using a 1/4″ seam allowance to form a patchwork square. Press seams. – Add your 12.5″ by 3.5″ strips to the top and bottom using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press seams.
- – Add your side borders (18.5″ by 3.5″ strips). Stitch using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press seams and full pillow front. – Spray baste your completed pillow front to your 18.5″ by 18.5″ batting piece. – Quilt as desired. I used straight lines through the corners of the squares.
“I love them because they are quick to sew up and they make for a nice handmade gift too.”
